Jon Adams of DMP Talks Intrusion, Access Control and GSX Plans

In this exclusive SSI interview, digital editor Craig MacCormack chats with Jon Adams of Digital Monitoring Products (DMP). Adams serves as vice president of sales for the 50-year-old industry leader. Together, they discuss DMP market positioning, its positive differentiators, trends in access control and the company’s big plans for next week’s GSX show in New Orleans.

DMP Highlights Positive Differentiators in Intrusion, Access Control Markets

At the outset of the conversation, Adams details some of the positive differentiators that serve to distinguish DMP in the competitive security market. DMP manufactures intrusion, access control, fire alarm and universal communicators, and the company embraces design, engineering and manufacturing in the United States. “All of our control panels, keypads, wireless zone expanders — all of our wireless is manufactured here,” Adams enthuses.

Moreover, Adams notes, all of DMP’s products are backward and forward compatible. “So, keypads and panels that were discontinued 20 years ago still work on the devices today,” he says. This avoids unnecessary rip-and-replace cycles due to factors like keypad discontinuation.

Later in the conversation, Adams helps to disambiguate access control and intrusion, highlighting the need for both. “What’s been unique about us for decades now,” he says, “is that our XR Series panels have both intrusion and access control on one panel.” This alleviates some of the pain points of trying to integrate two disparate systems into one.

DMP Emphasizes RMR in Intrusion Detection, Access Control

Subsequently, Adams and MacCormack broach the subject of recurring monthly revenue. “If you’re installing intrusion, you’re gonna charge for your monthly monitoring and such as that,” he begins. “But then, if you’re gonna go to access control, because so much of it is cloud-managed, you’re able to increase that RMR.” In most cases, he says, it’s a per-door charge. So, integrators have the ability to enjoy that recurring revenue stream.

Toward the end of the conversation, Adams and MacCormack discuss DMP’s presence at next week’s GSX show. The company is exhibiting at Booth #1961. It’s a great opportunity to discuss opportunities in access control and intrusion alike.
