Security Sales & Integration: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Jason Crawforth: “Know the difference between what you can do versus what you should do.” As a founder, it’s tempting to feel like you need to have all the answers and be the expert in everything. The truth is, no one is. The real strength as an entrepreneur comes from acknowledging what you don’t know and making sure you’re surrounded by people who fill those gaps.
This opens the door to building a powerful community around you — one filled with experts who challenge you and elevate your vision.
When I launched SWEAR, I recognized that I needed people by my side who understood the complexities of the security industry and could help shape our technology’s focus and vision. I intentionally sought out some of the best minds in the market to help guide our path. The guidance and dedication of these individuals have been instrumental — SWEAR simply wouldn’t be where it is today without them.
SSI: What advice would you give to those looking to achieve success in the security industry?
Crawforth: The security industry is filled with technologies that have become commoditized. To stand out and achieve lasting success, you need to focus on what truly differentiates you, your business, and your product. Focus on an area where you can deliver exponential value and double down on it.
Identify pain points that others overlook and solve them in ways that are radically more effective, not just marginally better. Ignore the buzzwords and trends and chart your own path to success.
SSI: If you could point to one person in the security industry and tell up-and-comers, “Make sure to listen to what they have to say,” whom would you pick and why?
Crawforth: Easy, Nigel Waterton. He has been such a valuable voice and resource. When I started SWEAR, I wasn’t well-versed on the ins-and-outs of the security industry. Luckily, I met Nigel, who immediately saw the potential of the product and offered his guidance and support.
He brings a rare combination of deep industry expertise, strategic thinking, and a genuine willingness to help others succeed. His insights go beyond trends and buzzwords; he understands what truly matters in protecting people and organizations.
