Simon Randall, Chief Executive Officer, Pimloc: Best Advice
Today in the Best Advice Q&A series, we hear from Simon Randall, chief executive officer at Pimloc. He shares the best advice he’s ever heard, how he helps security industry rookies gain their footing and who he points to as the sage of the sector.
Security Sales & Integration: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Simon Randall: It was less a piece of advice, and more a way to live your life – “Some people make things happen, some people watch things happen and some people go through life thinking what the flip just happened.” It’s a great mantra to remind yourself to be proactive, to lean-in and to make a change if things are not working.
SSI: What advice would you give to those looking to achieve success in the security industry?
Randall: It’s a tight-knit industry that runs on trust, so it’s imperative to stay true to yourself and keep delivering value while focusing on the core mission at hand.
SSI: If you could point to one person in the security industry and tell up-and-comers “Make sure to listen to what they have to say,” whom would you pick and why?
Randall: I’d say Kashmir Hill from The New York Times. She’s someone to watch for the way she examines the more “human” side of security and its impact on society. Her reporting and her book Your Face Belongs to Us offer important perspectives that go beyond the technical, helping the industry think critically about ethics and privacy.
