March Networks Emphasizes New AI Smart Search Technologies at ISC West 2025

LAS VEGAS— March Networks a global developer of intelligent video surveillance, just unveiled new advancements to its generative AI-based AI Smart Search solution at ISC West 2025 . Now publicly available to customers, AI Smart Search leverages natural language processing and advanced LLM (Large Language Model) algorithms to identify specific events, people or objects from thousands of cameras across all locations. Users can use voice commands to search through hundreds of thousands of video snapshots quickly and easily. Using generative AI , surveillance video images are taken at regular intervals and transformed into a searchable database, allowing customers in retail, banking and other industries to find key operational issues by simply speaking or typing commands. According to the company, these capabilities give customers access to a cost-effective, but advanced generative AI tool for video surveillance, minimizing the storage and processing demands of analyzing fu...

How to Use a Systems-Based Approach to Address School Security

Today’s K-12 environment demands that security is foremost in the minds of school administrators, teachers, parents and students. Recent events in the news and past tragedies have left many feeling frightened and overwhelmed, prompting a desire to take action to prevent such tragedies in their own communities. However, there is often confusion about the most effective ways to ensure campus or district safety. In many cases, there is pressure to act — to “just do  something ,” which may lead to unforeseen consequences or issues like violations of life safety code or non-compliance with the  Americans with Disabilities Act  (ADA). Such approaches can result in systems that don’t integrate well, solutions that fail to meet security standards, or overly complex setups. Additionally, fear-driven marketing can promote solutions that don’t address all potential risks. School security measures might be implemented in a silo, creating gaps in the overall strategy. This often al...

How AI, Cloud and RMR Are Changing Video Surveillance

Image
Times certainly are changing in the world of video surveillance. What was once seen as a novelty restricted for retail operations or large corporate buildings has now become an almost ubiquitous object in vertical markets never previously considered. But there are a couple of other important changes in the video surveillance market these days: Not only are we seeing cloud-based video surveillance deployments become the standard, but most customers are also fine with service contracts tied to their video surveillance camera installations. Not only does the shift away from a hang-and-bang approach mean security integrators are achieving recurring monthly revenue in greater numbers than ever before. It also means customers are awash in data from their surveillance cameras. As you might expect, integrators who install video surveillance cameras are hearing the words “artificial intelligence” or the acronym “AI” from their customers in just about every discussion these days, whether it’...

Key Trends Driving Mobile Credentials for Access Control and More

The evidence of mobile credentials use in everyday life is virtually undeniable; it’s all around us. In the U.S., 75% of iPhone users have at least one card loaded into their Apple wallet. Even with the prevalence of mobile wallets, it’s feasible to guess someone’s age — or at least their generation — by the form of payment they use at a cash register or self-checkout kiosk. Older shoppers are likely still dipping their credit or debit card into the reader; those who are more tech-savvy may tap to pay. If a shopper takes out their phone and waves it at the point-of-sale, they are more likely fall into the category of Gen Z or Millennial. Statistics support this observation. A recent study from PYMNTS.com points out that 78% of Gen Z consumers use their digital wallets “avidly,” while 67% of millennials do the same. Meanwhile, 62% of the generation deemed Xennials, or “late millennials,” use a digital wallet, 44% of GenX and 28% of Baby Boomers or older rely on the technology. Thes...

Report Addresses Civil Liberties Concerns Over Law Enforcement’s Use of Drones

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — A new report by the Rutgers University Miller Center on Policing and Community Resilience, the Global Consortium of Law Enforcement Training Executives (GCLETE) and the Life Safety Alliance (LSA) addresses rising concerns from civil liberties groups over the use of drones by law enforcement. The white paper “presents evidence that unmanned aerial systems (UAS)—commonly referred to as drones—are saving lives, improving officer safety and increasing police efficiency at a time when departments nationwide face severe staffing shortages,” according to the joint announcement. The report “responds directly to recent claims by organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which has warned that police drone programs may usher in an era of mass aerial surveillance. However, the report’s authors conclude that such fears are largely speculative or anecdotal,” the announcement says. “Civil liberties are a precious cornerstone of democratic societies,”...
